Forest Journey
by
Joseph Patrick Rogers
She trod upon a turning path
That wound through darkened woods;
Past pitfalls and snares she stepped
That would have trapped most others.
Does a troll lay in wait
Beneath the wooden bridge?
Behind those trees, what monster lurks,
What nightmare come to life?
Yet in the darkness, there was a light
That shone forth from her eyes,
Which saw the way that she must take
To reach the journey's goal.
Guided by her strength of will
And by her spirit bright,
She ran along the winding road
Through woods of danger and delight.
Nightmares changed to pleasant dreams
When she found the path of peace
That led out of the forest
And onward toward journeys new.
