The Adventures of Amanda Armbruster
by

A mischievous girl named Amanda Armbruster loved to ring doorbells in the middle of the night.
She especially liked to ring the doorbell of her friend Joe. Joe was very lazy and enjoyed sleeping very much. Amanda thought that Joe slept too much so she would ring his doorbell in order to get him out of bed. She hoped that someday Joe would not be such a lazybones.
Amanda was a hardworking young lady. She had three jobs. Since Joe was so lazy, he did not have any job. Joe claimed to have had a job once, but Amanda had never seen him do any work. She strongly suspected that this alleged job was a figment of his imagination.
He did have a good imagination, Amanda had to admit. Joe liked to write wild and crazy stories. Amanda considered Joe to be a bit crazy himself. Well, perhaps more than a bit crazy.
In any case, Amanda was a fine young woman. She hoped that Joe would try to imitate the good example that she was setting for him.
However, in the meantime, she supposed that she would just have to wait patiently for Joe to become more hardworking and industrious. Amanda decided that she would allow him to sleep, so she stopped ringing his doorbell.
After all, she thought with a grin, this is a big town with plenty of other doorbells to ring. I can still have lots of fun!
Smiling with that happy thought, Amanda returned home to her dear mother and lovely daughters, and they had a wonderful day together.
